Students dress up and engage in fun activities for Pennington School's Fall Festival
On Friday, October 25, 2024, cars lined around Pennington School, decorated with spooky decorations and balloons in the spirit of Halloween. The school’s Fall Festival was organized by the Pennington Parent Teacher Association. Students, parents and staff dressed up in their Halloween costumes or fall outfits and enjoyed fall goodies. Attendees also got to create slime and partake in fun games.
"This is an event that many look forward to each year and we are grateful for the PTA for continuing to provide opportunities for the community," said Dr. Melissa White.
On April 9th, Pennington Staff and Faculty had a Color Party during their faculty meeting. Staff members picked grade levels and chose a color to showcase. The staff went all out with various food items, decorations, and dressed in the color they selected.
Last week, Pennington scholars in grades 3 and 4 had the opportunity to observe 2025 Agricultural Literacy Week (ALW) with a read aloud by an ALW volunteer from 4-H, Mr. Soltis. Pennington scholars have had the opportunity over the last two years to experience the joy of planting and growing seeds that connect with the selected story from the ALW coordinators.
“No place for hate!” shouted Pennington School students. On Tuesday, Pennington’s kindergarten to third grade classes enjoyed the first ever Sandwich Social event inspired by the book “Carla’s Sandwich,” by Debbie Herman. The Sandwich Social is one of four activities held by the school’s No Place for Hate (NPFH) committee this school year.
Five esteemed women, most of whom are from Mount Vernon, visited Pennington School to tell young female scholars to never give up on their dreams and to celebrate Women’s History year round. For the second year in a row, Pennington hosted a Women’s History Month Derby Tea Party celebration on March 20, 2025. This year’s theme was “Inform, Educate, Empower.”
Pennington School staff and parents celebrated National Chili Day by hosting the first-ever Parents vs. Staff Chili Cook-Off event. Parents and staff brought their homemade chili to the Pennington auditorium and event-goers visited each station to try the delicious foods.
Pennington School fourth and fifth grade students were visited by John Elliott, a meteorologist for CBS2 News, who taught them about his career and scientific concepts related to his work with reporting the weather. His presentation on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, also gave students the chance to ask about different weather patterns and the tasks of a meteorologist.
Pennington school celebrated the 100th day of school on Monday February 24th. Schoolwide, students dressed as senior citizens flooding the halls with gray hair and canes to assist them walking. Teachers joined in on the fun wearing wigs and glasses including Dorothy, a golden girl!
Dennis Richmond’s 6th-grade class had an unforgettable experience at the Jacob Burns Film Center on Wednesday, January 22, 2025. Students watched an inspiring film, followed by a Q&A with the director. The best part was meeting students from a neighboring district and expanding their horizons!
